GERMANY 2018 (MAIN RIVER)
Bicycles: Borrowed from Georg and Regina
Where: From Bayreuth to Mainz
Distance: Approximately 500km
When: July / August (two weeks)
Comments: the weather was heatwave conditions for most the whole trip. We started early and finished early in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.
The cycleway follows the meandering course of the Red Main from Bayreuth to junction with the White Main and then the Main itself to its junction with the Rhein at Mainz. For the first part of the trip the river was quite small but by the end it had increased to a quite a large river.
The water level at the confluence of the Rhein and the Main was noticeably low due to lack of rain. Lots of small breweries on the first part of the trip, then lots of vineyards.
Route: Bayreuth / Kulmbach / Bamberg / Schweinfurt / Wurzburg / Aschaffenburg / Frankfurt / Mainz
